Home FAQs Is this your job?
Is this your job?

The simple answer is no!

Lifeboat station staff and crew are all volunteers, which means we all have other jobs we do during the day. Apart from the Station Mechanic, (or at some stations Coxswain / Mechanics), who is employed by the RNLI to work at the lifeboat station full time.

You will see from our Crew Page that our crew have many different jobs including; a Teacher, Fishermen, Managers and  Mechanics to name a few.

All the training and exercising we do, is done in our own time in the evenings or during the weekend.

If our pagers go off while we are at work we have to leave what we are doing and get to the lifeboat station as soon as we can. This means having a very understanding boss, who lets us leave work during the day!

Without their support we wouldn't be able to go..
