A group of crew members and support volunteers were able to put together a display at the Cromer Carnival this year to give the public a chance to meet us ask questions and get advise. The team, led by Head Launcher Graeme 'G' Stallard, used a display D-class inshore lifeboat (D-550-P) and an operational Lifeguard Rescue Water Craft (RWC-051) as examples of the equipment used by the RNLI in providing an integrated rescue service from the beach to the open sea. Members of the public were able to try on some of the gear worn by lifeboat crews and the younger visitors were encouraged to climb aboard the inshore lifeboat and have their pictures taken in some of the gear. There were plenty of sea and beach safety leaflets given out and a chance for everyone to 'Spot the Dangers'. A good time was had by all involved and the crew would like to thank our visitors for their excellent support. After a long hot day on Wednesday (30°) the Carnival arena was cleared to make way for the arrival of the floats that were going to take part in the evening parade. As crew members were preparing the D-class lifeboat and RWC for the parade, the inevitable happened. Our crew pagers sounded for an immediate ILB launch! Thankfully we were beside the local Coastguard unit, also preparing for the parade, who generously gave 4 crew members a lift to the ILB boathouse using their blue lights and siren to make their way through the gathering crowds in the town. After all that excitement and with the return of the crew members we were able to take part in the parade, followed closely by a handful of lifeguards who had managed to join us after a very busy day of work on local beaches.
