Museum Wins Award

AwardsThe RNLI Henry Blogg Lifeboat Museum wins a national award for the very best examples of interpretation.

The Interpret Britain and Ireland Award that recognises the very best examples of interpretation - the art of sharing the stories and significance of natural and cultural heritage.

The awards scheme, now in its 22nd year, is run by the Association for Heritage Interpretation (AHI), with support from English Heritage, Scottish Natural Heritage and the Countryside Council for Wales.

On receiving the award, presented by TV personality and heritage campaigner Loyd Grossman in Bristol on 30 November, RNLI Museum Project Manager, Maureen La Frenais commented: 'I'm so pleased that the new museum has been given a national award - this confirms the positive feedback we've had ever since it opened. It's proving to be a great new museum which preserves the history of the RNLI by caring for the objects and archives that tell the story of the lifesaving service since it began back in 1824.

The judges' recommending the RNLI Museum for award, explained: 'The judges thought that the project had successfully fulfilled its aims and provides a clear and absorbing story of the lifeboat H F Bailey and its Coxswain, Henry Blogg. It uses a stimulating variety of means which includes material of interest to a variety of ages and levels and abilities of interest.'
