Gt. Yarmouth Coastguard set off the pagers for the ILB to launch immediately to assist two crab boats approx. 1nm off the Cromer Lighthouse. Both boats, from Cromers' east beach, were in difficulties and required assistance to get ashore in the worsening weather conditions. The first casualty 'LISA DIANE' was struck with an engine failure caused by an electrical fault and was being helped ashore by the second casualty 'CANDY' when she encountered drive problems brought on by a damaged prop bush giving out under the extra load of the other vessel. When the ILB arrived on scene they took over the tow of the 'LISA DIANE' and proceeded towards the east beach at Cromer where the stations shore crew were waiting to give help in getting the boats back onto their carriages. As soon as the first casualty was safely ashore the ILB and her crew relaunched and headed back out to the 'CANDY' which was now approx. ¾nm off Cromer Pier. Once the tow was established they again headed back to the east beach to recover her to safety. When both vessels were re-carriaged the lifeboat crew returned to station and washed down the ILB, refuelled her and were ready for service at 10:13.
