Cromer lifeboat 'Royal Shipwright' launched at 18:36 to attend a fire on board an unmanned rig approx 35miles ENE off Cromer North of the Leman Bank. While travelling towards the scene the lifeboat contacted Gt. Yarmouth Coastguard for an update on the situation and were told that the seat of the fire on the rig was in the generator station and that the Shell gas rig 4926AD with 59 POB was close by. On scene commander was the standby vessel PUTFORD VOYAGER, the lifeboat was instructed to go along side when on scene to standby in case the gas rig needed to be evacuated.
The lifeboat was stood down and released to return to station. At 20:29 Cromer lifeboat returned to the East beach for recovery and was refuelled and ready for service at 21:15. Vis: 200 - 300 yds Sea State: Moderate Crew on Board
