At approximately 10:30 Cromer Senior Helmsman, Ady Woods, was contacted by a local fisherman who informed him that his boat 'GRACE ELIZABETH' was suffering with minor engine problems ½nm off East Runton and asked if it was possible for the lifeboat to standby in case the situation worsened. As there were sufficient crew on the promenade the pagers were not set off to muster the rest of the team as this would take them away from their jobs un-necessarily. While standing by the relief inshore lifeboat 'John Kennedy' was made ready for launch and the crew kitted up, keeping a watchful eye on the situation. At 11:22 the ILB launched from the East beach as the crab boat had suffered complete engine failure and could not make it ashore alone. Arriving on-scene just three minutes later the crew established a tow and brought the vessel ashore. After returning to station the ILB was washed down and made ready for service at 11:45.
