Crew pagers sound for ILB launch at 11:27 this morning
Memebers of the public dialled 999 and contacted the Coastguards today to alert them that there was a dog approximately 3/4 nm off the beach below the Cromer lighthouse.
The Coastguard then contacted our station LOM to request that the ILB is launched to assist with the situation.
A couple of the crew were already in the offshore boathouse cleaning our Tamar lifeboat after the launch on Monday during the naming ceremony and they made their way along the prom to prepare the ILB for launch. As this was happening the crew pagers were set off to alert the rest of the crew to attend. While the others were making their way through the busy town centre the two crew were able to open the No.2 boathouse doors, move the ILB and tractor out and run up the engine ready for the launch.
As the other crew members arrived they put on their drysuits etc and proceeded to the beach with the ILB and launched at 11:33 towards the area where reports of a dog stuggling to get ashore had been reported. Contacting the Coastguards on the way they recieved an updated position of the location of the dog in the water and headed to the scene.
Arriving on scene at 11:37 they found the dog was just leaving the water and went ashore to make sure that the owner and dog were OK. With everything in good order the ILB returned to station getting to the beach at 11:50 and was washed down and made ready for service by 12:00.
